BSCE Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin 1973. He has
over 40 years experience building all types of structures. The first part of
his career he built bridges and highways all over the State of Texas. The
last 10 years he has focused on residential and commercial construction.
His daughter Valerie is part of the company providing residential
construction experience with architectural drawings for homes and
businesses. She also manages all rental property
About Me
My name is Valerie Elliott, and I am the current property manager of Deavers Properties’ rentals. I studied Interior Design and run Deavers Designs, a small sister firm that I built off our family-owned Deavers Engineering LLC, which designs architectural floor plans for multi-family and single-family homes, mainly for investors. I also work and manage Deavers Engineering, designing on the structural side. Growing up, rolled-up blueprints and hard hats were always within arm’s reach. Construction is in our Deavers' blood and what drives our passion. When I entered the trade and got my first real job, I worked for an architectural firm in the heights, and then my heart led me to Austin. I wanted to get there so quickly that I took my first interview and job offer at a large Structural Engineering Firm, designing structures for both commercial and residential properties across the nation. I can honestly say it was the most stressful year of my life, but the lessons I learned I am forever grateful for. Projects organized by numbers and searching through 50 pages to find a single detail? = Taking hours out of your workday = less productivity. Using outdated Software? = Major On-site construction mistakes + $$$$ to fix. So,when my dad offered me a Walmart card table in the corner of his office at the end of 2019. I knew I had to avoid making the same mistakes as my previous employers, and at that point, there was only 1 of me; therefore, my time spent on projects was my money, but I also had to keep a simple organizational structure in mind for future hires. During this time, I quickly learned that to land a new project, I had to talk to every person who walked into that office to trust me with their project. I learned that if I talked to everyone on a personal level, stayed positive, performed quickly and efficiently, and simplified confusing engineering and permitting code terms, I would earn a long-term client. This personal approach I found built our clientele tremendously. A few months into 2020, the COVID boom really took off, construction costs were rising by the day, and 2x6s were out of stock within 100 miles. Investors are flocking to our office, and the phone is ringing nonstop; every square foot matters to save on high construction costs and high property prices. Therefore, when the lot sizes were replated super-tight, the living square footage was low. It was my mission to design small square-footage homes with high functionality for everyday living. Every inch mattered. I learned that smart design with low investment and high returns is the name of the game and essential. This approach guides everything we do at Deavers Properties. We make sure our properties feel bigger than they are, choose finishes carefully for a timeless appeal, and stick to our budget, but small upgrades also pay off. Our combined experience in architecture and engineering helps us spot fixer-uppers and see their potential. We can also conduct a vacant property survey to determine which investment makes sense before purchasing. We design everything in-house, from Revit 3D models to the permitted blueprints, and throughout the construction phase. We truly enjoy the entire process, but the best parts seeing our tenants happy in their new homes!
